Job Title: Paint Preparation Operative

The Paint Preparation Operative will be responsible for the preparation of trailer surfaces and the application of primer to trailer chassis and small parts. This includes ensuring the work environment is safe and efficient, and adhering to high-quality standards in the preparation/paint process to adhere to production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation:
- Preparation of surfaces for paint, including cleaning, sanding, taping and filling.
- Ensure surfaces are free from dirt, grease, and other contaminants before painting. - Priming Duties:
- Application of primer coatings to trailer chassis and smaller sub-assembly parts.
- Mix and dilute primers and other coatings according to the specifications.
- Ensure all equipment such as spray guns is maintained and cleaned after use.
- Inspection of workpieces to ensure proper coating thickness, smoothness, and uniformity.
- Report any defects or issues with the coating process to the supervisor. - Safety & Compliance:
- Complying with safety guidelines and ensure that all preparation activities are carried out in compliance with safety regulations.
- Ensure areas are tidy with good housekeeping practices to minimise Health and Safety risk.
- Maintain and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). - Quality Control:
- Ensure all surfaces meet the required standards for paint application, including checking for defects, scratches, or imperfections.
- Perform regular checks and audits to maintain quality standards during the preparation process. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the wider Paint team to ensure smooth transitions between preparation and painting.
Skills:
- Good understanding of surface preparation techniques and materials.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Previous experience in priming preferable
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Frequent use of tools and machinery related to surface preparation.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials as necessary.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals and fumes (PPE provided).
